Benefits of Parkinson’s Indoor Cycling
The National Parkinson Foundation’s most recent study identified that 61% of people with Parkinson’s Disease (PD) suffer from depression, with symptoms that range from mild to severe.
Exercise has been proven as an effective treatment for major depressive disorder (MDD), and now there is sufficient research to help doctors prescribe the proper dose of exercise for depressed patients. [1]
Parkinson’s Indoor Group Cycling will be available at True Cycling Studio. These classes will be lead by a trained Parkinson’s Cycling Coach like our TCS leader, Jorge.
Some of the benefits of the Parkinson’s Group Cycling Program are:
Improves motor skills and brain connectivity - Provides symptomatic relief for people with Parkinson’s disease, especially if they cycle using what’s described as Forced Exercise, i.e. pedaling at a rate faster than their voluntary cadence.
Enhances experience, so the exercise behavior becomes routine and part of every day life.
With proper bike fit, these new riders put less stress on their knees, ankles, and spine while increasing their lower body strength, so everyday activities become somewhat easier to handle.
Increases energy levels, which is common for people who become more active and physically fit.
